“Don’t try to find yourself or define yourself through what you do; instead, seek only to express your highest knowing of what you are through what you do.” Adyashanti in My Secret Is Silence
You are not what you do. You are not your temporary things in this fleeting life. You are also not defined by how much you can give. That is especially important to be mindful of this time of year.
How much you give doesn’t say your good or bad. Those are just thoughts and no thought is ultimately true. It says nothing about what you really are. Nothing can define the Absolute Awesome Emptiness that we all are.
I’m not saying don’t give if that is what you are moved to do. But if you’re doing it to boost your made up self-image or gain points in some imaginary points system, please realize that’s all just going on in your head.
In every moment that is spontaneously arising, just use what you have. Do what you can. Be what you truly are. The rest does not matter.
